Autumn

I have a complicated relationship with fall. I love the crisp air, smell of damp mulch and beautiful leaves. I am amazed by all of their colors and unique shapes. I am one of those crazy people you see on campus, stooping down with their phone to take a picture of a leaf on the ground. Taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of a natural transition, one that celebrates change, is meaningful to me.

However, fall also comes with a downside. Right now we are experiencing torrential, flash-flood, skin soaking rainstorms. These are nice to enjoy from inside, but not so fun to walk around in. Fall also signals the transition into winter, which is by far my least favorite season. I realize that Seattle winters are very mild compared to other regions, for which I am very grateful.

“The trees show us how lovely it is to let the dead things go.”
