What will we be like on the other side?
Maybe we will be more adventurous
To try something new, free from fear of failure.
Maybe we will learn to value our rest
To set boundaries and say “no” without feeling selfish or guilty.
Maybe we will delight in the beauty of nature
A warm spring day, a brisk breeze, a passing rain shower.
Maybe we will learn to share what we have,
Instead of hoarding more than we can ever use ourselves.
Maybe we will be thankful for our workplaces and schools
That provide so much more than a paycheck or an education.
Maybe we will realize how much we treasure our communities
In coffee shops, book clubs, sports teams and support groups.
Maybe we will pick up the phone sooner or make the long drive over
And choose to stay just a little longer.
Maybe we will hold our loved ones closer
And treasure every pat on the back, handshake and hug.
Maybe we will delight in sharing fellowship with other believers
As we savor a small foretaste of eternity.
We don’t know now, but we will someday soon.
When we reach the other side.
